is a black table and wine grape. Some people claim it is from the Ebro valley while other people state that it comes from Aragon, and even the Italian Liguria, which is why its origins are not clear. It has an infinite number of synonyms (grenache, giró, lledoner, granaccia, negrella, roussillon, tintilla, etc), to name but a few. This is the grape with Mediterranean origin that is cultivated the most in all the world. THe clusters are compact, medium-sized, and the grapes are also medium-sized, oval and dark red or purple in colour. The wines it produces have little colour, but high alcohol content and excellent oxidation, which permits its combination with with other strains. It is suitable for aging in oak, and provides aromas and flavours of berries, figs and dates, among others. It is often used for manufacturing liquorous and pudding wines.
