The Artadi wines really need no introduction, they belong to the world. Artadi "Valdeginés" Confident and Jovial means. Reminiscent of a very young, subtle fine Saint Emilion.

Valdegines is a red wine made from 100% Tempranillo from the Cru of 7 hectares Valdegines in Laguardia. The soil is calcareous clay, lightly compacted. The average yield per hectare is 40hl and the grapes are harvested by hand in boxes of 10kg. The maceration and fermentation (10-12gg) occur in open topped timber. The wine is then aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels, where the malolactic fermentation.
Valdegines produces structured wines, slightly angular and of great power that continue to evolve and mature for at least 20 years.

Behind every cork you'll find a clear-cut, restrained and structured wine, that at first seems shy but which gradually begins to raise the tempo until it turns into a seductive melody. Its tannins are tough but well-integrated, and its initial defiant tone soon reveals a beautiful structure directed by a vibrant acidity; there emerge the now classic earthy and liquorice aromas, which we usually find in Artadi wines, accompanied by a woodland raspberry and strawberry freshness, spices, and the elegant austerity found in very fine wines.

I had participated in a prize draw and got it as a gift .
It had a very deep colour. Smells good, licorice and violet aromas. This Rioja has a very good acidity.
