You will like to know that…

The history of The Famous Grouse begins in 1865, when Matthew Gloag and his son William, produce the first bottle of the prestigious distillate. Matthew had worked as a wine and whisky merchant throughout Scotland and was privileged to supply the wines for Queen Victoria's royal banquet, during her visit to Perth. His son, William, took over the leadership of the company in 1860 and began creating blended distillates in 1875. The Grouse brand enters the limelight under the guidance of William's nephew, Matthew Gloag, becoming established as The Famous Grouse in 1905.

Produced today by the Edrington Group, The Famous Grouse is a blended distillate, obtained from a blend of the world's finest single malt whiskies: The Macallan, The Highland Park and Glenrothes. Golden in colour, it impacts the nose with its fragrances of sherry, oak, fresh herbs, barley and citrus notes. To the taste, it is perceived mature, balanced, with touches of caramel, spices, subtle bitterness and a medium finish.

The Famous Grouse is not obsessed with fame, but with doing things right. And when they are well done, fame will come naturally. Pour a glass to your liking, neat or on the rocks, and share the best of the Scottish countryside, in the most pleasant company.

Description of The Famous Grouse

The Famous Grouse

TASTING NOTES of The Famous Grouse :

  • Colour: Golden, clear and bright; the colour is an indication of the exceptional liquid inside.
  • Aromas: There are oak and sherry on the nose, with a citrus note.
  • Palate: On the palate it's mature, easy-going and full of the bright Speyside fruit - with a clean and medium-dry finish.

Our whisky is named after the Red Grouse (Lagopus lagopus scoticus), Scotland's national bird. The Famous Grouse is the testimony to the unsurpassed blending skills of Matthew Gloag and Son, a family founded in 1800.

The secret is in the way we marry the finest malt and grain whiskies for an unusually long period in fully seasoned oak casks. The result is a blend of the smoothest possible character. The Famous Grouse is proud to be Scotland's favourite whisky.
