TRoyal Salute 21 Years was launched on June 2, 1953, as a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her coronation day. The name of this Scotch Whisky comes from the "Royal Salute", the 21 shots that mark the coronation of each King and Queen of the United Kingdom.
The Royal Salute 21 Years is presented in a special and original porcelain bottle. This bottle exists in 3 different colours: ruby, emerald and sapphire, the English royal colours. They represent the crown jewels of England. Moreover, each bottle is numbered.
Royal Salute 21 Years is a non-peaty whisky, characterized by its sweetness in mouth. It is advised to serve it without water, pure in a whisky glass. It is very appreciated by occasional scotch drinkers, but it will also please those who like Speyside malts in general.
Description of Royal Salute 21 Years
Royal Salute 21 Years
- Colour: This is a dark amber whisky-- a traditional colour for this type of alcohol.
- Aroma: A smoky fragrance fills the air as soon as the bottle is opened. Fruity raisin scents mix with light undertones of floral blooms and nutty bitterness. Oak spices complete the scent profile.
- Taste: Dried fruit flavours of apricot and cherries provide this drink with a small amount of sweetness. Oak spices add a kick, traditional of Scotches. The drink also comes with an unmistakable smokiness. It leaves a long, and somewhat buttery, finish.
PRODUCER: The Chivas distillery was founded by two Chivas brothers, John and James, in the early 1800s. At first, the company was called Chivas Brother Ltd. These two brothers used traditional Scottish whisky recipes. However, it was their long ageing periods that set their product apart from others. In the early 1900s, the distillery began selling their beverages in the United States, which helped their brand to gain fame all over the world.
PRODUCTION DETAILS: Chivas does not go into detail as to how they make their whisky. What we do know is that it is a single-malt, which means it is made exclusively in one distillery, in a single still. It is likely made from malted barley. As the name implies, Royal Salute 21 Years is aged for 21 years in oak barrels before it is bottled and sold.
