Since it was first released in 1866, Jack Daniel's has become a fixture in the world of whiskey. This historic brand is the first of its kind of be officially registered in the United States. In all of that time, from its founding up until the release of the Master Distiller Series, there have only been seven master distillers ever at the Jack Daniel's company. These men, each of whom helped make Jack Daniel's as great as it is today, are individually honoured thanks to a special edition of the whiskey they crafted and adored.
No. 2 in the Jack Daniel's Master Distiller Series celebrates Mr Jess Motlow, who had the unenviable task of leading the brand through the Prohibition era. After Jack Daniel's passed away, Jess Motlow took over, becoming the longest-serving master distiller since he was in charge of the distillery from 1911 to 1941. It is thanks to this man that the brand survived Prohibition. He was able to guard the recipe and reignite the stills after Prohibition was repealed.
Jack Daniel's Master Distiller Series No. 2 serves as an excellent homage to this man. Produced in Tennessee, this fine whiskey is made using a minimum of 51% corn and is aged in new charred barrels to give it a nice toasty flavour. Before ageing, the whiskey is filtered through maple charcoal, adding a new facet of flavour and elegance to the whole.
