In northeastern Scotland lies the region of Speyside, home to the greatest collection of whisky distilleries in Scotland. As one of the five whisky regions in the country, Speyside has the perfect climate and pure water needed to craft beautiful Scotch whiskies. It is here at the foot of Ben Rinnes that the Glenfarclas distillery can be found. The name Glenfarclas means "glen of the green grassland" in Gaelic. This distillery was bought in 1865 and remains family owned and operated, now in the hands of the fifth and sixth generations.
The Grant family has taken it upon themselves to create single malt scotch whisky in the traditional manner. From their fine collection is the Glenfarclas 105, a cask strength whisky that was first released in 1968. With its release, Glenfarclas was the first distillery ever to release a single malt whisky at barrel strength. The name refers to its British alcohol content, equating to 60% ABV.
In the glass, Glenfarclas is a deep golden colour and smells of oak, apple, and pear with a touch of dark sweetness. In spite of its strength, this whisky is incredibly smooth and rich, tasting of spices, oak, and sherried fruit. This is an assertive choice which shows off all that Glenfarclas has to offer. You can try it neat or on the rocks, but please note that a drop of water will serve to really set this whisky free. Pair it with desserts like caramel, coffee, chocolate, or mature cheeses.

PRODUCTION DETAILS: Cask strength whiskey of premium quality, this superb single malt spirit is fabricated in the magical Speyside. The name 105 makes reference to the alcoholic content of this whisky in the British Proof system, equivalent to the 60 ABV in the international market. This expression does not have an age statement on the label, although it is known to be matured in former bourbon and sherry barrels for eight to ten years. Despite the high alcoholic graduation, Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength 1L has a smooth character, and the sweet notes develop on the palate from the first sip.
