You will like to know that…

The Bushmills Original is produced by the Bushmills, a distillery so important for the Northern-Irish industry that its image was included in the new banknotes of this country as a tribute to its 400 years of existence. In 2010, this whiskey was the winner of multiple awards which testify of its high quality. Since 1608, when King James I gave the founder Sir Thomas Phillips the license to distillate, this company has not stopped sharing with the world a bit of its cultural tradition. More than whiskey, each bottle of Bushmills contains a bit of the richness and traditions of its home region.

The Producer

Old Bushmills Distillery

Old Bushmills Distillery

Bushmill's history starts in 1608, when King James I. granted Sir Thomas Phillips - landowner and Governor of Antrum - a license to distill. In 1784 the distillery is registered and the Pot Still becomes its trademark. The first big difference adds in the 1850's, when a malt tax is introduced. Because of this tax many distilleries changed their recipes, while Bushmill's didn't. The brand was unstoppable, although many obstacles - such as a big fire, prohibition and World War II - made life hard and decreased or even stopped production for a while.

- Bushmills Irish whiskey is the original and best known whisky from the Old Bushmills Distillery, the oldest licensed whisky distillery in the world. Its is a blend of single malt and single grain whiskey.
- Grain whiskey reserved for Bushmills is aged a minimum of five years in oak casks that are specially selected to bring out the golden hue and light. When mature this grain whiskey is blended with a single malt whiskey to balance the flavour.
- The malt used in Bushmills mash derives its clean taste from the deliberate absence of peat used in the barley drying process. Irish whiskey distilleries kiln-dry their malt in a heat-fired, not peat-fired, oven. Lighter, no smoke and perfectly balanced, Bushmills is triple distilled for exceptional smoothness.
