As often happened in the past, George Ballantine entered the world of alcoholic beverages by opening a wine and spirits distribution business. It was only in 1910 that he developed the recipe for Ballantine's Finest, a Blended Scotch Whisky that today is among the best selling in the world.
The recipe has always remained the same. Super secret, it is known only by the distillery's Master Blender in charge. What is known is that it brings together over 40 malt and grain whiskies from four regions of Scotland.
Another key to Ballantine's success was certainly the design of the bottle: thanks to its rectangular shape, similar to that of a brick, the whisky could easily be hidden in a briefcase in the days of Prohibition.
