TASTING NOTES:

  • Colour: As the distiller uses no artificial ingredients, the warm golden colour comes entirely from cask wood.
  • Aroma: Citrus, rose petals, coconut, apple cider, a sweet peachy fruitiness and custard creaminess with notes of salt.
  • Taste: Immediate white pepper warmth softens into boiled sweets. A mid-palate of almond and apple pastries touched with barley sugar gives way to a long, fresh finish like a whisky-sour sweetening to a slow fade of cotton candy. A rich honeyed mouthfeel.

PRODUCTION DETAILS: Aged ten years. A limited edition release of 12,000 bottles. The distillery always uses all-Scottish barley, chiefly Optic and Oxbridge barleys, and water from Loch na Davie, Scotland's purest. The malted barley is mixed with the water in a mash tun to make wort, which goes into washbacks crafted from Oregon pine, where yeast is added to begin fermentation. The resulting "wash" is double-distilled in tall, swan-necked copper stills. The whisky matures in carefully-chosen oak casks that have previously held liquors such as bourbon and sherry, giving the whisky its most distinctive character. This special anniversary edition was created using whisky matured in first-fill bourbon barrels laid down during Master Distiller James MacTaggart's first few months in the post back in 2007. Unlike most, this distiller believes that chill-filtering reduces nuances of aroma and flavour, and therefore character, so does not use that process.
