You will like to know that…

Arbeg 10 Years is venerated in the whole world as the most complex whisky. The peat and toasted notes clearly contribute to it, without, however, having as much of a leading role as to leave no space for the natural sweetness of the malt. The equilibrium is perfect, and its volume of 46º alcohol gives it more body and greater depth. All the qualities of a good whisky in a single bottle!

Description of Ardbeg 10 Year old

Ardbeg 10 Year old

Ardbeg Ten Years Old is revered around the world as the peatiest, smokiest, most complex single malt of them all. Yet it does not flaunt the peat; rather it gives way to the natural sweetness of the malt to produce a whisky of perfect balance.

Typically most whiskies are chill-filtered and reduced to a strength of 40% ABV. Ardbeg Ten Years Old, however, is non chill-filtered and has a strength of 46% ABV, thus retaining maximum flavour, at the same time giving more body and added depth. It's whisky with none of the goodness taken out!

TASTING NOTES:

  • Colour: Light bronze.
  • Smell: Sweet peat, coal, Caramac bars, a slight floral note and soap, pepper and chile. Exceptional balance and depth.
  • Taste: Lush malt flavor and long lasting spicy peppery finish.

Single Malt Scotch Whisky, produced in the famous island of Islay.

Alcohol: 46% Vol

Aroma: Strong start, with coal smoke and iodine, also hints of malt and sweet or candied fruits. When calm, or when we add water, maintains the dominant tone of firewood and fire but not so dominant and, without a complex nose, if that balances the tones of smoke and fruits.

Palate: a puff of smoke immediately peat, very characteristic, earth, grass and smoke is received. It is very spirited and dry input and then, in a similar to that detected in the nose, calm and behavior although undoubtedly is peat which dominates underlying tones of fresh pineapple, a hint of lemon and some salt.

Finish: Dry, without a doubt and salt. Smoke feeling long in the mouth.

4 /5

- Ardbeg Ten Years Old is a very special bottling for the Ardbeg distillery as it is the first non-chill filtered whisky in the Ardbeg range. Chill filtering isn't a bad thing, in fact it created real consistency of product when the whisky industry was a little more 'hap-hazard' than it is today. Ardbeg Ten Years Old is whisky with none of the goodness taken out and as good as straight from the cask.
- Who would believe that back in 1981, the distillery fell silent and was mothballed? Fortunately in 1997, to the delight of fans all over the world Glenmorangie plc rescued Ardbeg and a team of dedicated souls set about repairing and reviving the distillery (not to mention repainting it!). Now, once again Ardbeg flows freely.
