In 1948, Amrut Distilleries Private Limited was founded by Shri J.N. Radhakrishna. It began by providing spirits to the Indian Army. Now in its sixth decade, Amrut Distilleries continues to grow and progress, recently establishing itself as a global name in whisky. The distillery is currently located in Kambipura, not far from Bangalore.
To make Amrut Fusion, a mix of unpeated Indian barley and peated Scottish barley is used. These barleys are distilled and aged separately before being fused to create a single malt whisky. It is then aged in American oak for three months to give the marriage time to blend.
Amrut is a Sanskrit word which means "the elixir of life" and is an excellent way to describe Amrut Fusion. Enjoy this seductive whisky however you wish and it will shine in all arenas. For pairing, try it with Indian food as the whisky will cut through the spice. It also goes well with red meat. For a dessert pairing, dark chocolate will bring out the sweet notes of this exceptional blend.
Description of Amrut Fusion
- Colour: This whisky is lighter than most, having an amber-yellow colouring.
- Aroma: On the nose, oak spices stand out more than anything else. Barley makes up the secondary aroma. Other scents include smoke and sugar. All in all, it's a complex scent profile.
- Taste: On the tongue, you can detect bitter flavours of trifle and nuts. Smokey and oak spice flavours tickle the tongue and the roof of the mouth. Yet, there is still a creaminess to this whisky, which tastes similar to vanilla and chocolate. This drink has a long finish. Oak spices and the high alcohol content leave a burning sensation in the back of the throat.
