100 Pipers . Say the name out loud to yourself and what comes to mind? The evocative name of this Scotch whisky immediately brings to mind visions of Scottish bagpipers, and for good reason. The name is based on the ballad of "The Hundred Pipers" which is all about the 100 pipers who led Bonnie Prince Charlie into his 1745 Jacobite uprising. There are, unsurprisingly, also bagpipers featured on the attractive black label.
This whisky, created in 1965, is now sold all over the world. The eleventh best-selling Scotch whisky worldwide, it is even the number one Scotch whisky in India. 100 Pipers in a blended Scotch whisky made up of anywhere between 25 and 30 unique whiskies, many of which come from the Allt a'Bhainne distillery. These are all blended to perfection before being bottled.
This smooth, mellow whisky is very well-balanced. It is sweet with lovely notes of fruit and smoke which add dimension to the full-bodied whisky flavour. The oaky fragrance is followed by a slight oak finish. This elegant whisky is best served neat or on the rocks.
