Abadía Retuerta Petit Verdot 2015 (Petit Verdot)

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: Colored vermilion intense and velvety.
  • Nose: The nose is fine, elegant and subtle, with hints of mocha.
  • Mouth: The palate is soft and creamy and immediately powerful and intense flavors are released fresh fruit and confit with roasted coffee winks, smoke snuff blond, burnt caramel and crusty bread.

APPELLATION: Castilla y Leon, Spain.

VINEYARD: Abadia Retuerta.

GRAPES: Petit Verdot.

AGEING: The aging period is 16 months in barrels of French and American oak.

PREPARATION: After the harvest a selection table grape selection is made. The fermented wort in stainless steel at a controlled temperature. Maceration is 10 days. Malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels.

WINE PAIRING: Ideal with rice with meat, sausages and white meat.

RECOMMENDED SERVING TEMPERATURE: 16 ° C

ALCOHOL: 15%

As I had it between meals I could not pair it. I usually preserve Abadía Retuerta Petit Verdot for special people.
Red ruby colour with reddish brown tinges. A red that smells of cherry and licorice. I noticed a smoky flavour.

Petit Verdot is a native Bordeaux variety which has found the perfect home in Abadia Retuerta's low yielding vineyards in Sardon de Duero. This sublime expression of the variety has an intense dark cherry hue and a rich, sweet nose of blueberry, liquorice, toffee and dark chocolate. The full bodied palate has concentrated flavours of blackcurrant, mocha and smooth tobacco, while the sleek, satin tannins of this brilliant 2011 vintage provide a structure that will see this lasting the distance if cellared.
