The Vidigueira denomination of origin of is the onlyone in the Alentejo region of Portugal that is best known for its white wines than for its red wines.
The Vidigueira DOC grows varieties of Alfrocheiro red, Moreto Periquita, Tinta Grossa and Trincadeira. These red wines must be aged at least 12 months. In the case of white wines, varieties cultivated are strains of Antao Vaz, Manteúdo, Ferrum, Rabo d'Ovelham (widespread throughout Portugal), and Roupeiro.
The white wines of Vidigueira DOC are mellow, but with character. Perhaps with some notes that may lead one to erroneously relate them to the wines made from the Palomino de Jerez grape.
