The production philosophy focuses on a single goal: quality. Every choice then assumes great importance and requires absolute attention to detail. At no stage of the production process are allowed shortcuts: this is our way of working and that's how we get the best grapes according to the climatic characteristics of each vintage. In the analysis phase and harvest empirical evidence allows us to choose carefully the bunches to collect. The taste of the grapes allows to better evaluate the maturation of the tannins and the balance of clusters, to determine the best time to harvest and the vinification technique for the grapes of each plot. We submit the grapes in a dual selection: a first sorting table for the verification of the quality, then a second check for the removal of any residual vegetation. The grapes of each cru ferment separately, since each base wine contributes to the creation of the final blend, by virtue of the specific conditions of the vineyard of origin: combination of soil, climate exposure and of course the type of grape. Only after a year of barrel aging the base wines are assembled in compliance with the two main criteria: the expression of elegance inherent in the spirit of Ornellaia and vintage style. Half hidden at the foot of the hills near Bolgheri, Ornellaia is located a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. In the summer months, the cool sea breeze caresses the vineyards and the nearby olive groves, while in the winter the hills protect it from cold north winds. Ornellaia believes that a wine should be the most authentic expression of the terroir from which it comes, and right here, together with the maritime climate, the heterogeneous nature of the terrain of the marine estate, alluvial and volcanic creates a distinctive atmosphere where the varieties of red and white can give their best. Masseto is excellence made wine. A legendary wine, coming from a terroir with unique vocational characteristics. Considered unanimously as one of the most prestigious wines in the world. Obtained by a masterful interpretation of Merlot grapes from three sub eponymous Masseto vineyard, namely Masseto Centrale, and Masseto Masseto Junior High, encouraged by the presence of a mild-temperate climate and the breezes that blow in the neighborhood of expanse of sea. The harvest is conducted with extreme care and attention. Followed by gentle pressing of the grapes and fermentation in steel tanks at a temperature of 25-28ºC for 25 days, with maceration in contact with the skins. After the first 12 months of separate aging in barrels, the wine remains in the same containers for a further 12 months after the assembly, for a total of 24 months of elevation. Ruby red by the glass, the nose Masseto expresses a wide and intense bouquet, with hints of cherry and plum, accompanied by complex notes of dark chocolate and mushrooms typical of the great red. In the mouth assumes a structure and elegance of relief, resulting in a cool and round the same time, pleasant and harmonious tannins. Wine which can remain in the cellar for over 15 years, the Masseto matches very well with important dishes of roast meat and game, or even with medium-aged cheeses.

I had bought it on a wine tasting.
It revealed a very light colour. Great smell of chocolate coulant. Good acidity for my taste.
