The Winery

St. Michael Eppan

Founded in June 1907, a time of economic depression, the cooperative dedicated itself from its very beginnings to promoting the cultivation of top-quality wines and ensuring adequate revenue for its members. It is due to the farsightedness of the authors of the early oenological guidelines that the production facilities have, in essence, preserved their original functionality. Side by side with the traditional wooden casks dating back to the days of the founding fathers, state-of-the-art wine-making techniques ensure outstanding quality and testify to that harmonious and functional symbiosis of tradition and modern technology which is the hallmark of San Michele-Appiano.

The white wine of the Gewürztraminer wine producer San Michele Appiano is obtained by exclusive use of Gewürztraminer grapes. The vines are located on the hills in the heart of South Tyrol, thanks to the combined action of a very favorable climate and particularly fertile calcareous soil, ensure the production of excellent quality grapes. The history of this winery is very old, the foundation dates back to 1907 and, over the years, has become a landmark of the wine industry in South Tyrol thanks to a perfect balance between craftsmanship and promote the area. Very well maintained is also the production process, since the harvest, which takes place exclusively by hand. After a soft pressing, you start with the fermentation that takes place in steel tanks at controlled temperature and subsequent aging in small wooden barrels. The result is a fresh white wine, elegant and refined, never cloying, easy to drink and medium bodied, characterized by an aromatic and fruity bouquet. Given these particularities, it lends itself to be consumed at any occasion. Ideal with sweet and sour cuisine.
