Don Julio is a tequila made from blue agave, the secret ingredient that gives it its unique touch, grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The company, founded by Don Julio González, decided to produce its own Tequila in 1942 with the founding of its distillery "La Primavera", and spent the next 40 years improving all stages in the process of distilling tequila, from agave cultivation to bottling, until turning it into what you can now appreciate: a magical tequila.
The agave pineapples are cut by hand in quarters and cooked for three days in traditional masonry ovens to extract all their essence. It takes more than three and a half kilos to fill a bottle of tequila.
In 1985, Don Julio celebrated his 60th anniversary, and his children, to commemorate the event, created a tequila in his name. The guests soon showed interest in the product and spread the word. In 1987, Don Julio arrived on the Mexican market, becoming the first luxury tequila in the world, and set the standard for this category. It is a testimony to craftsmanship and tenacity. When you have it in your glass, you can see how it will capture your senses for its amber color and its powerful aroma, the result of aging in American white oak barrels for eighteen months. Before the arrival of Don Julio, tequila was considered an inferior product, typical of farmers, and had a ceiling as to its price; today it is considered a special drink.
