Based in South Africa, the Simonsig Wine Estate has been sharing its fine wines with the world since 1968. This award-winning brand has become an institution in its home country. The first wine that the estate ever produced was a Chenin Blanc, which has been a constant in the portfolio of the brand ever since. The 2019 vintage is the 51st release of this wine by Simonsig.
All of the Chenin Blanc grapes for this wine were gathered from the Stellenbosch DOC. Unlike the drought which affected the 2018 release, the 2019 vintage benefitted from a wet winter. A surprise wave of heat in June meant that the grapes matured at an uneven rate and had to be harvested in various stages to get the perfect flavour. Fermentation at a low temperature ensured that as much of the fruit flavour was retained as possible.
Thanks to all that effort, Simonsig Chenin Blanc 2019 is a bright yellow wine with green shadows. The fresh palate is full of the vibrant flavour of passionfruit, apple, pear, melon, and kiwi, making it perfect to pair with a variety of different flavours. This fruitiness is matched by a beautiful level of acidity to result in a well-balanced wine that is best to enjoy within two years of its release.

Simonsig Chenin Blanc 2019 (Chenin)
- View: Pale straw yellow.
- Nose: A pleasant and complex bouquet of tropical fruits, pear, and green apple under a soft aroma of flower blossoms and chamomile.
- Mouth: Velvety texture with a layered fresh flavour. Notes of guava, kiwi, melon, apple, a bit of citrus, and honey melt into a clean and refreshing finish.
VINEYARD: These grapes were grown by Simonsig Estate in north western Stellenbosch, South Africa. The estate is over 211 and lies at the feet of the Simons mountains. Simonsig Estate is the largest private producer of estate wines in South Africa.
GRAPES: Chenin Blanc
AGEING: A young wine. Will cellar well for up to 2 years from vintage date.
PREPARATION: The 2019 harvest was challenging because the preceding winter saw heavier than usual rains while the spring was warmer than expected, leading to uneven ripening throughout the vineyard. The winery hand-picked the grapes in various stages of ripening. The grapes were crushed and some were left on the lees overnight. The juice was cold-settled and then inoculated with selected yeast strains. Finally, the juice was slowly fermented at temperatures between 12 and 14°C.
PAIRING: Grilled chicken, salmon, roasted root vegetables, steamed mussels, pastas with creamy sauces, or green salads with goat cheese.
RECOMMENDED SERVING TEMPERATURE: 10-12°C

PRODUCTION: The grapes are crushed and some batches remain in contact with the skin overnight. The fermentation temperature is maintained between 12-14 degrees to ensure good slow fermentation and optimal production fruit flavor.
