Description of Kleine Zalze Cellar Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Kleine Zalze Cellar Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 (Cabernet Sauvignon)

  • View: Deep, mouth-watering red that appears burgundy in the sunlight.
  • Nose: Dark fruits, plums, and raspberries satisfy the senses in a rich aroma that, while deep, is inviting.
  • Mouth: Soft velvet and smooth tannin give the Cabernet a standard taste that makes it welcoming to wine drinkers of all varieties. Red fruits and gentle spice add to the texture of this palate. A long finish that slowly smooths away to dry tannin is the most noted quality of the wine.

APPELLATION: Stellenbosch

VINEYARD: Kleine Zalze, a vineyard resting within the sunny wine valleys of the Coastal Region of South Africa. The Stellenbosch region is famous for its excellent craft of award-winning wines in South Africa. Internationally recognized as the most prosperous wine country in South Africa, Stellenbosch mostly harvests Cabernet Sauvignons. The gentle slopes, apple sunshine, and clay-concentrated soil make for ideal growth of red grape varieties in particular.

GRAPES: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

AGEING: Aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.

PREPARATION: The grapes are picked early in the morning. Half are sent to undergo a traditional fermentation in open fermenters while the other half are set in stainless steel tanks. Oxygen is added to the wine. Tannins are extracted and re-infused to give the wine its smooth finish. Afterwards, gravity separates the skin from the fermented wine. Malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks.

PAIRING: Best served with a steak dinner or lamb and red sauce. Garlic buttered potatoes and charred vegetables will serve as an excellent addition.

Ripe dark pip fruit, fine smoky taste and licorice. The Kleine Zalze Cellar Selection Cabernet Sauvignon shows concentrated, full-bodied, powerful and balanced. Ripe tannins, intense bouquet. Rich in black currant. Fine toasted notes.

- This is a very typical Cabernet Sauvignon that shows dark fruit on the nose that follows on to a textured palate with some red fruit and soft and supple tannin profile that gives way to a long finish.

- A concentrated Cabernet with aromas of ripe blackcurrant and blackberry, cedar and spice. The palate is rich with with cassis fruit and well integrated smoky oak while the finish is long and smooth.

The Cabernet Sauvignon of Kleine Zalze makes friends.
At sight it has an intensive cherry colour. Nuts presence on the nose. Sweet and tasty.
Good wine, but I would not have taken it with fish.

We enjoyed it together with friends. It was a surprise for my best friend.
Intense ruby tone. Fantastic smell of roses. Toasted background in the mouth.
