Rancho Zabaco Sonoma Heritage Zinfandel 2016 (Zinfandel)

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: This dark red zinfandel is a deep ruby red with dark purple undertones.
  • Nose: This wine carries the scent of dark fruits and berries. The most prominent of these aromas include blackberries, cherries, and plums.
  • Mouth: This dark red zinfandel has a medium body and medium tannins. The grapes meld best with the other fruity flavours of dark berries and stone fruits. A zest of black pepper adds some spice to the drink as well.

APPELLATION: Sonoma County

VINEYARD: The grapes used in this wine are grown in Rancho Zabaco's land in Sonoma Country. This land is located in California, near the Pacific ocean. This gives the grapes light ocean breezes and misting rains. The soil is made of ancient mountains, sea beds, and rocks that provide excellent growing conditions for zinfandel grapes.

GRAPES: 93% Zinfandel and 7% Petite Sirah

AGEING: This wine is aged naturally on its own lees. This adds to its natural fermentation.

PREPARATION: After the grapes are picked, they are destemmed. However, the grapes are not crushed yet. This allows for the skins to give the wine their dark colour. Next, the grapes are soaked in warm water for a day before fermenting for up to a week. After a stage of natural fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. It's then aged, filtered, and bottled.

PAIRING: This wine pairs best with lamb, pork and Italian sausage. As for vegetarian dishes, it pairs well with curry and Ceasar salad.

RECOMMENDED SERVING TEMPERATURE: 17-18°C

ALCOHOL: 14.88%

You best enjoy Rancho Zabaco Sonoma Heritage Zinfandel during an engaging conversation.
Brownish cherry red colour. Smell like nuts, like it. This Rancho Zabaco has a slightly woody taste.
With the right pairing the wine tasted really good.
