Description of Bacalhôa Moscatel de Setúbal 2016
Bacalhôa Moscatel de Setúbal 2016 (Moscatel, Moscatel de Setubal and Moscato Giallo)
TASTING NOTES:
- View: This unique wine has hues of scarlet, blood orange, and ruby to make up its brilliant colour.
- Nose: This wine has traditional Muscat scents of oranges and other citrus fruits, as well as black tea.
- Mouth: On the palate, this proves to be a full-bodied wine. It's sweeter than most wines, due, in part, to its dominant citrus flavours. However, bitter notes help to balance the wine. Some drinkers may also notice a lemony sour note here and there, adding another dimension to the wine.
APPELLATION: Setubal
VINEYARD:This wine is made by Bacolhoa Wines, which resides in the Setubal district of Portugal. The winery first opened in 1922 but had the name João Pires & Sons. Now, the winery owns over 100 hectares of vineyards and makes over 20 million liters of wine each year.
GRAPES: Muscat.
AGEING: This wine goes through a very short fermentation time. It is aged in used oak casks. However, this wine does not have much wood flavour to it. This wine does not need to be bottle-aged.
PREPARATION: Once the Muscat grapes are picked, they are fermented for a short time. Aguardiente is then added, which helps to sweeten the wine. The grapes are then macerated with the skins on. The grapes are finally aged in pre-used oak casks.
PAIRING: This wine is best used when served with fruity or chocolate-based desserts.
RECOMMENDED SERVING TEMPERATURE: 10-12°C
ALCOHOL: 17.5%
Reviews of Bacalhôa Moscatel de Setúbal 2016
Has a very cheerful colour. A smoky touch remained in my mouth.
The truth is that I had expected more.
