Château Rieussec Magnum 2001 (Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle and Sémillon)

TASTING NOTES OF Château Rieussec Magnum 2001:

  • Nose: The first wine tastings reveal a powerful nose dominated by notes of apricot and candied melon.
  • Mouth: On the palate, the attack is delicate and fine. Then the wine develops large scale, with an impressive presence. The balance between acidity and liquor is so perfect that the sugar disappears completely: this feeling is very rare, occurring only in exceptional Sauternes.

Vintage 2001: The weather conditions were normal, with no indication of the success that was to come. The harvest began in mid-September with a preliminary selection of clusters. A light rain most welcome weekend of 22 and 23 September and then that invaded botrytis grapes, causing rapid and homogeneous concentration favored by high temperatures and strong winds: And then the perfect scenario was presented. Harvesting is done very quickly and, in certain plots in a single pass, something never seen in Rieussec.

I had it with a birthday cake. I like sharing this fortified Armagnac with someone special.
Nice colour. It would have been better if it had been cooler than it was. Our fault.

We order it in a supper with working colleagues.
It had a very shutdown colour. Cool and pleasant.
A that doesn't need to be accompanied by food.
