Château d'Yquem Yquem 1997

A year always excessive: hot, early, with long grape harvests and many tries
Of a rare complexity, the potential of 1997 will be immense for who will be able to wait for it
The appearance, May 5, of the first flowers augured a very early vintage
But the heavy rains and the cool temperatures, at the end of May and at the beginning of June, having strongly upset the flower, one could also expect a staggering of important maturity (last flower on June 15th)
Overall, there are very specific weather conditions
A rare drought: 30mm in September-October (including 20 mm on 1 September) against 140 mm in a normal year

The rainfall in 1997 is the same as 1936, 1945, 1978 and 1985, the only equivalent references since 1927
On the temperature side, the year is decidedly warm
The cumulative temperature from February 1 to October 31 is the strongest of the period 1927-1997, higher than the references 1947, 1949, 1961 and 1990

The maximum of the maximum is constantly 1.5 ° C from August 1 to 31 October
This will result in slow Botrytis contaminations, with some mists and a reduced rainfall in two months, but high sugar concentrations with high temperatures and sales that will blow, sometimes strong, from directions east to South East.

Chateau D'Yquem Sauternes Premier Grand Cru 1997

In the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, Château d'Yquem was the only Sauternes given this rating, indicating its perceived superiority and higher prices over all other wines of its type. Yquem's success stems largely from the site's susceptibility to attack by "noble rot" (Botrytis cinerea).

Château D'Yquem 1Er Cru Supérieur 1997

It's always good to share wine, but this one's special.
It had an intense colour. I liked the taste of blackberries in this Château D'Yquem 1Er Cru Supérieur.
It's a good wine to chink glasses.

Superior!
Noble, Yquem is the unique Premier Cru Supérieur of Bordeaux.
The robe is gold colour, this wine is silky. The bouquet is saffron. On the palate, it is sweety. Yquem is more than "superior".

It is distinguished, and rich.
Bordeaux could not exist without Yquem.
2006 had an excellent crop.
Climate is good and soils are different and rich.

Our bottles come directly from Château d'Yquem

We had the great chance to taste this superbe wine en primeur at the château at the end of April. And we discovered an Yquem 2003 showing an induspitable superiority on all of the botrytised sweet white wines... even though 2003 is incredible for all of the Sauternes appellation.
Yquem is the perfect balance between all the elements that make a wine THE wine for eternity.Drink or keep: EternalDelicious with: Foie gras

Chateau D'Yquem Sauternes Premier Grand Cru 2002
Discovering Chateau d'Yquem stats with the bouquet. Although not always very outgoing in young vintages, it is marked by fruit (apricot, mandarin, and occasionally tropical fruit) and oak (vanila and toasty aromas). Older vintages, on the other hand, have extraordinarily complex fragrance as soon as the bottle is opened. The bouquet is amazingly suble, with hints of dried fruit (dried apricot, prune, stewed fruit, and marmalade), spice (cinnamom, saffron, and liquorice), and even flowers (linden blossom, etc).
The first impression of Chateau d'Yquem on the palate is always very silky, and often sumptuous. It then fills out, "coating the palate". This fine wine has a strong, but never overbearing character, with great elegance and poise. It always mantains a balance between sugar and acidity (sweetness and freshness). A touch of bitterness can also contribute to the overall harmony. Chateau d'Yquem aftertaste is legendary, and it tells another story, which lasts and lasts...
