Castle YQUEM 1985Le most famous sweet wine in the world, Château d'Yquem is since 1999 in the hands of the LVMH group headed by Bernard Arnault businessman. The castle is today embodied by Pierre Lurton, also head of Chateau Cheval Blanc in Saint Emilion. Before him, Alexandre de Lur Saluces wrote from 1967 to 2004, some of the most beautiful pages of the unique history of upper first classified in 1855 in the tradition of his ancestors. Because this wine is perhaps the most consistent of Bordeaux for a hundred years. Even in small vintages and bad times, Yquem held its rank into his incomparable aging. It is this fact to a unique terroir, reacting to the development of botrytis like no other, and men who have been able to understand and develop his qualities. If Yquem not necessarily impressed in his youth, he irrevocably widened the gap with its neighbors after several years of aging. Enjoy an old castle vintage remains an experience that any fan of sweet wine must have known in his life. 1985 vintage: A very cold winter, a very wet spring, a summer of persistent drought (only 1 day of rain between September 15 and November); a poor harvest despite the harvest started on October 5th! And bombshell early December, rottenness finally settles. Harvest in December, a rarity, and Yquem which is a miracle.

Superior!
Noble, Yquem is the unique Premier Cru Supérieur of Bordeaux.
The robe is gold colour, this wine is silky. The bouquet is saffron. On the palate, it is sweety. Yquem is more than "superior".

It is distinguished, and rich.
Bordeaux could not exist without Yquem.
2006 had an excellent crop.
Climate is good and soils are different and rich.

Our bottles come directly from Château d'Yquem

We had the great chance to taste this superbe wine en primeur at the château at the end of April. And we discovered an Yquem 2003 showing an induspitable superiority on all of the botrytised sweet white wines... even though 2003 is incredible for all of the Sauternes appellation.
Yquem is the perfect balance between all the elements that make a wine THE wine for eternity.Drink or keep: EternalDelicious with: Foie gras

Discovering Chateau d'Yquem stats with the bouquet. Although not always very outgoing in young vintages, it is marked by fruit (apricot, mandarin, and occasionally tropical fruit) and oak (vanila and toasty aromas). Older vintages, on the other hand, have extraordinarily complex fragrance as soon as the bottle is opened. The bouquet is amazingly suble, with hints of dried fruit (dried apricot, prune, stewed fruit, and marmalade), spice (cinnamom, saffron, and liquorice), and even flowers (linden blossom, etc).
The first impression of Chateau d'Yquem on the palate is always very silky, and often sumptuous. It then fills out, "coating the palate". This fine wine has a strong, but never overbearing character, with great elegance and poise. It always mantains a balance between sugar and acidity (sweetness and freshness). A touch of bitterness can also contribute to the overall harmony. Chateau d'Yquem aftertaste is legendary, and it tells another story, which lasts and lasts...
