Chateau Les Ormes de Pez takes its name from the village of Pez near St Estèphe, as do the other nearby cru bourgeois properties of de Pez and La Tour de Pez. Les Ormes translates as elms, and betrays the presence of a copse of these trees, long since disappeared, near the chateau.

Château Les Ormes de Pez 2012 offers a dark dress and a powerful nose with marked notes of red fruits and spices. On the palate, it is a concentrated wine with classic tannic structure of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, with a long finish. Castle and vineyard, it split into two parts, are located in the hamlet of Pez north of Saint-Estèphe. It is owned by Jean-Michel Cazes, also owner of Grand Cru Classé Château Lynch-Bages. It is classified Cru Bourgeois Exceptional. In the vineyard as in the winery, the same philosophy that Lynch Bages prevails. Château Ormes de Pez is the property of Jean-Michel Cazes, like Château Lynch-Bages, Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac.

The 32 hectares of this Saint-Estèphe are divided into two parts in the hamlet of Pez. The grape varieties is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, and a minority of Petit Verdot.
All the work of winemaking is done by the Lynch-Bages team. The wine is then aged for 12 to 15 months in oak barrels (45% new).
Final assembly is composed of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
This 2012 vintage is very nice, letting speak Merlot in all its fullness. In a significant tenderness, it offers a fresh and tense final.

The  has become my best friend.
Dark red colour, reddish brown edges. Fine aromas of raisins. Quite powerful flavour.
We had it with a deer stew.

Château Les Ormes de Pez 2012

Château Ormes de Pez is located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The origins of Ormes de Pez back to the eighteenth century. Located just outside the hamlet of Pez north of the town of Saint-Estèphe, wine production is named after a beautiful bouquet of tall elms now disappeared. Acquired in 1940 by Jean-Charles Cazes, it is now owned by Jean-Michel Cazes, wine producer and also the owner of Grand Cru rated Chateau Lynch-Bages. The richness of its soil is made up of gravels. The vineyard and winemaking techniques combine the best of tradition and modernity to give birth to red wines harmonious spicy and voluptuous character, authentic expressions of terroir of their appellation.

Everything is done to the equipment the cellars as winemaking techniques of Château Les Ormes-de-Pez combine tradition and modernism. For two weeks, the fermentation is done in stainless steel tanks enjoying a temperature regulation system.
The 2011 vintage has a dark ruby ​​color, with plum shades.
Its sweet and fruity nose (blackcurrant, plum, red and black fruit) seduced us and invades.
The palate is opulent, silky with a final oriented fruit. This wine is silky and generous.
