Ron Zacapa is a Guatemalan rum that is matured at 2,300 metres above sea level. This high-altitude maturation takes longer than at lower altitudes, meaning that the rum interacts more with the barrel, drawing out all of its complexity and character during its extended maturation in the clouds. In fact, the name of the building in which Zacapa Rum is matured is called the "House Above the Clouds".
Zacapa Rum was invented to celebrate the centenary of the town of Zacapa. Using only first-press sugar cane honey, this honey is aged in the highlands of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala until an exceptional rum is achieved. Ron Zacapa Centenario Solera 23 is a blended spirit made using a range of spirits from 6 to 23 years of age. This dark rum is a beautiful mahogany colour earned from the long years spent hibernating in four different types of barrels on top of the world.
Intricate and intense, this is not a rum for beginners. Full of personality and yet incredibly balanced, this spirit is one that a true rum lover has to taste.
