You will like to know that…
The Dos Madera brand takes its combinations seriously. Combinations of wisdom, culture, and flavours are embodied in its line of fine rums. One member of this portfolio is Ron Dos Maderas 5+5 PX. While most spirits have their age listed as a total, this 10-year-old rum puts the math on the bottle. This is to show that, even though it has been aged ten years, what is more important is the double ageing.
To start, fine 5-year-old rums from Barbados and Guyana, both of which are great rum producing countries in the Caribbean, are brought across the Atlantic Ocean to Spain. The Barbadian rum is smooth and light while the Guyanese rum has more body, making the two together a perfect marriage. In Spain, this blended rum is aged for three more years in barrels which were previously used for Dos Cortados sherry before being transferred to barrels that were previously used for Don Guido sherry for an additional two years. The label should say 5+3+2, but 5+5 works just as well.
The final product is a blend of three countries - Barbados, Guyana, and Spain - and a three-stage maturing process that uses two special types of Jerez barrels. It should be no surprise that all of this effort has resulted in an award-winning rum that, because of its quality, it best to enjoy on its own.
