Penny Blue VSOP

TASTING NOTES:

  • Color: Pale amber, slightly cloudy.
  • Odor: Characteristic of herbs.
  • Palate: sweet and savory, unique.

PRODUCER: Herbs Dunes.

COUNTRY: Netherlands.

PREPARATION: Penny Blue VSOP is a very special liquor. It is not a simple distillation of herbs, but a versatile distillate located in the beverage industry, the place it deserves. You can drink it as an aperitif, or as an excellent digestive or, finally, added to a cocktail to give a characteristic touch of Syrco Bakker, chef and passionate distiller, who has perfected the classic recipe distillate herbal original idea. The original plans, in fact, the use of dried botanicals. Syrco, however, decided to use fresh herbs, which are macerated and then filtered. Herbs treated in this way give more flavor to the distillate. And what are the best herbs, but those around in the dunes of Cadzand, looking down over the North Sea? Here, then, thyme and samphire, hips and elderberries rose a total of 18 selected herbs that make Penny Blue VSOP a unique liquor. The sweet-salty flavor blends well with all kinds of long drinks or cocktails. Ice and some tonic water, a drink to quench thirst, and is excellent after a meal.

- Classed as exceptional by drinks critic Simon Difford, this rum exudes character and is made on a single estate, where the they grow their sugar cane and distil the molasses before maturing in three different types of oak, that of Cognac, Bourbon and Whisky.
- With a colour of deep amber, the nose reveals notes of marmalade, melon skins and cloves, whilst on the palate is a soft, luxurious taste of glazed fruits, cedar wood and tropical spices.
- The rum is named after the first stamp produced for Mauritius, the Penny Blue, of which only 500 of the one penny were made and today sell for over $1,000,000!
