The Flor de Caña distillery was founded in Nicaragua in 1890. Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa chose a site that was a mere five miles from the tallest active volcano in the country, San Cristóbal, to take advantage of the fact that both the soil and the water of the area are constantly fertilised and enriched by the volcano. This hot volcanic climate also makes the interaction between the rum and the barrel more dynamic. The end result is a unique and exceptional rum.
The Flor de Caña distillery is still family owned and operated, now in its fifth generation after 125 years in business. As it is from the Nicaraguan sugarcane that this rum draws most of its flavour, it is no surprise that the name of the distillery, Flor de Caña, translates to "flower of the cane". Flor de Caña 12 Year Old, with no sugar and no additives, is the ultra-premium rum offered by the distillery. It is 100% naturally aged in premium bourbon barrels that are sealed with Nicaraguan plantain leaves.
The result of all of this hard work and experience is a full-bodied, top-quality rum. Flor de Caña 12 Year Old is a perfect sipping rum to be taken neat, on the rocks, or with a splash of sparkling water. Naturally sugar-free, gluten-free, and kosher, try this reddish amber gem with seafood, fresh or grilled fruit, and rich desserts.
