Ossian Quintaluna Verdejo

2018 was an excellent year without real details. After a cold winter with snow, spring started early with sufficient rain. After the shoots, everything went through the booklet, but a serious advantage is that the meadows of Ossian are so old that they have experienced all weather conditions and are so deeply rooted that intervention is not necessary.

The Quintaluna grapes come from a number of very small sandy vineyards located in the north of Segovia. They are planted in sandy soil. Most of them are very old grape vines from the pre-phylloxera period, not inoculated and preserved because the sandy soil prevented the plague. The sticks are therefore more than 120 years old and some even more than 180 years. The hand-picked grapes are first kept in a cold room to preserve their aromatic qualities. After they went through the meticulous selection process, they were appalled and pressed carefully. The fermenation took place in small stainless steel tanks with native yeasts. The wine remained on its lees for nine months and was bottled in early August 2018 and released at the end of September.

Quintaluna expresses the freshness and authentic character of the Verdejo variety and is certainly not your average Verdejo but an authentic complex wine. With consciously low yields, Osssian wants to increase the concentration and variety specificity. With the start of 2017, the bottle and label have changed, but also the upbringing and the wine have matured for no less than nine months on their land (sur lie) in oak barrels, which means a serious step-up in quality. The education also ensures that the Quintaluna can easily stay in the basement for 3-5 years.

The Quintaluna of Ossian not only renews its image but is a new wine with a new philosophy and again a leap in quality. The 'entry wine' from Ossian is not just another wine because at Ossian they are required to stand. The professional knowledge speaks immediately. In the glass this pure 100% verdejo is clear straw yellow, with beautiful tears. Nicely ripe citrus fruits dominate the nose, with furthermore green apple and gooseberry. The Quintaluna is very balanced with good minerality and finesse. Unprecedentedly good price / quality ratio

Ossian is the mini-project of Javier Zaccagnini, also partner and director of Aalto in Ribera Del Duero, and Ismael Gazalo, whose family has been making wine in the region for years. The extremely old Verdejo vineyards are located in the village of 'Nieva' and are located 850 meters above sea level. The vines are between 100 and 160 years old, making this the longest certified vineyard in Castilla y León. On Ossian a Rueda is not just made like you will find thirteen in a dozen. No, on the contrary, Javier hired a topoenologist from Burgundy. Together they vinify the small yield of unique Verdejo in a Burgundian way, just as Pierre does with Chardonnay in Meursault and Puligny Montrachet. In some years a top-top cuvée is made 'Ossian Capitel'. In a few years, Ossian has become Spain's most respected white wine.

Die angenehme Säure verleiht dem Wein Frische. Außerdem spürt man eine angenehme Nuance von frischen Kräutern mit einem Hauch von Anis. Herkunft Die Bodegas Ossian setzen es sich zum Ziel die besten Weine aus Verdejo Trauben herzustellen und sorgen in den letzten Jahre mit ihren wunderbaren Verdejos für Furore. Rebsorte Die für den Quintaluna verwendete Verdejo Traube stammt von teilweise 100-200-jährigen Rebstöcken und teilweise von jungen Rebstöcken, die mit Bio Zertifikat versehen sind. Er wird für 2 Monate mit seinen Bodensätzen in Edelstahltanks gelagert.
