Next to the Ebro River in the heart of the world-famous Rioja region lies the Señorío de San Vicente, a winery that has been producing fine Spanish wines since 1870. This family roots itself in its plants, putting its grapes above everything. To make great wines, you need great vines, which in turn need great soil and care.
One of the fine products offered by these generations of knowledge comes in the form of San Vicente. This DOCa wine is made using 100% Tempranillo Peludo grapes, which are the autochthonous sister of the much more common Tempranillo. Tempranillo Peludo results in more elegant, aromatic, and fruity wines than its sibling. The vines for this particular wine were planted in 1985, which means that they are becoming more mature with every passing year.
San Vicente 2015 in particular, is a rich and elegant expression of the Tempranillo Peludo grape. The depth of flavour achieved through the 20 months of ageing is commendable. This garnet-red wine cries out for you to take a sip, first reaching the eyes then the nose before winning over the mouth. The tannins are well integrated and the finish is quite long, making this the perfect wine to enjoy now or to store for another few years to watch how the flavours evolve.
