VARIETY: Tempranillo from the towns of Briñas, Labastida and Rodezno.
AGEING: Fermentations are normal, leaving dry wines with encubes means 10 days. Once the tumultuous fermentation and after racking, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation quickly. It is aged in American oak barrels from May 2001 to June 2003; the first year in new oak and the second in oak with an average age of 3 years racking performed four manuals. It is bottled in July 2003.
The weather that accompanied the vegetative development of the vine was suitable to achieve optimal quality conditions favoring the absence of pests and fungal diseases in the vineyard. Flowering, fruit ripening and developed properly. During September there was hardly any notable precipitation and thus ripening in those plots with balanced load was adequate. The harvest begins the first week of October for our farms Montecillo (Ashtray) and Los Llanos (Fuenmayor). The grapes are harvested in excellent health condition, good sugar concentration and optimal color parameters for high quality wines.

How to serve
On July 10, 1890, five Basque and Rioja-based vine growers created "Sociedad Vinicola De La Rioja Alta" in what is known as the Haro Station District. This was the beginning of a fascinating business venture in which the only dream of the five founders was to craft and age high-quality wines.More about the Winery
Reviews of Rioja Alta 890 Gran Reserva 2005
Red intense cherry colour and high layer. Characteristic nuts notes. It tasted ok.
Cherry red, clean colour. A red that smells of cherry and licorice. Acid, fresh, light.
It was a perfect companion for the main course.
The colour was between red and brown. Smell of ripe fruit compote. The wine was ok.
I had it with cod and potatoes.
