Bodegas Muga, founded in 1931 in the town of Haro, is one of the leading bodegas in the highly acclaimed wine region of la Rioja Alta. They combine tradition with innovation, producing wines with a pronounced personality, where the influence of the terroir and climate is fully present.

Muga Blanco 2019 is a fresh and fruity blend of 90% Viura and 10% Malvasia. This white wine pairs fantastically with fish and rice dishes.

Description of Muga Blanco 2019

Muga Blanco 2019 (Garnacha blanca, Malvasía, Malvasia Bianca and Viura)


  • View: straw-yellow, bright.
  • Nose: Clean nose, complex aromas of herbs like fennel, citrus (lime) stone fruit (peach) and light toasted notes.
  • Mouth: Fresh with good acidity, balanced, silky and very long aftertaste.


VINEYARD: chalky soil and alluvial clay of Rioja Alta.

AGEING: After light maceration of the skins with the must in the press, it is fermented in new, lightly toasted French oak casks. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete it spends a further three months in the casks with lees stirring twice per week to keep its fine lees in suspension in the wine, protecting it from oxygen and giving the wine a smoother mouth-feel and harmony. Before bottling it is stabilised by cooling.

METHOD: Handpicked in boxes of 200 kg. Choosing a selection of grapes in the vineyard and winery with transfer to refrigerated truck. After a slight maceration of the skins with the must in the press, fermented in new French oak barrels from Nevers district with a slight tan.

WINE PAIRING: Grilled fish, smoked bluefish, and rice.

Bodegas Muga

Bodegas Muga is located in the historical Barrio de La Estación (railway station district) in Haro. The facilities (270,000 square foot) are two centuries old, built mainly of stone and oak. In fact, oak is paramount in the winery. There are 200 oak deposits as well as 14,000 barrels, made out of different types of oak ranging from French oak (Allier, Tronçais or Jupilles), American, Hungarian, Russian and even the small consignment of Spanish oak.

  • Vue : couleur jaune paille.
  • Nez : Le nez est très complexe et propre, où des arômes d'herbes clairement perçu comme le fenouil, les fruits à noyau et agrumes.
  • Bouche : La bouche est le vin très frais, équilibré et soyeux avec une bonne acidité.

APPELLATION : Rioja (La Rioja, Espagne).

VIGNOBLE : Bodegas Muga.

CÉPAGES : Viura, Malvasia et Garnacha Blanca Rioja.

ÉLEVAGE : Après une légère macération des peaux avec le moût dans le vin de presse est fermenté en fûts de chêne français. Après la fermentation alcoolique du vin passe 3 mois dans les barriques.

PRÉPARATION : Pour produire ce vin raisins sont récoltés manuellement dans des boîtes de 200 kg, où une sélection de grappes est faite dans le vignoble et cave déplacé au camion réfrigéré. Le sol du vignoble est argilo-calcaire. Avant d'être mis en bouteille, le vin est stabilisé par le froid.

  • Vista: colore giallo paglierino.
  • Naso: Il naso è molto complesso e pulito, dove percepisce chiaramente aromi di erbe come il finocchio, drupacee e agrumi.
  • Bocca: Al palato è vino molto fresco, equilibrato e vellutato con una buona acidità.

UVE: Viura, Malvasia e Garnacha Blanca Rioja.

INVECCHIAMENTO: Dopo una leggera macerazione delle bucce con il mosto in vino stampa viene fatto fermentare in botti di rovere francese. Dopo la fermentazione alcolica il vino trascorre 3 mesi in botti.

PREPARAZIONE: Per la produzione di questo vino le uve vengono raccolte a mano in scatole da 200 kg, in cui una selezione di grappoli si fa in vigna e in cantina trasferito in camion refrigerati. Il terreno vigneto è argilloso-calcareo. Prima di essere imbottigliato, il vino viene stabilizzato dal freddo.

ABBINAMENTO: Ideale da abbinare con il pesce, frutti di mare in piatti a base di riso e generali.

Of a light yellow colour. Clear aroma of grapefruit, lime and lemon. An oil-textured wine.

I had found it in the shop where I'm used to buy.
I do not know the exact colour, it seemed a dark yellow type white. Clear hints of jasmine. A white wine who feels oily in the mouth.
