You will like to know that…

"Since the 1992 harvest, they ferment plot by plot, and it shows. This Valbuena has almost 100 components in it, smaller lots, all of them corresponding to a plot of vines. It has all the signs of being one of the best vintages ever for this second wine from Vega Sicilia, mostly Tempranillo but with 5% Merlot that matured five months in 20,000-liter oak vats, 18 months in new barriques (equal parts French and American oak), three months in used barrels and then five months in the vats again before being bottled in May 2013. 1992 seems to have the exuberance of the 2011 and the seriousness and elegance of 2009. It has the Burgundian philosophy of terroir, with all plots fermented and aged separately, giving each vineyard what it needs in terms of vinification and elevage resulting in something like 40 separate lots to blend. This wine has gained in precision and sharpness, and is very pure with delineated aromas and flavors. It is a world-class wine, possibly the best Valbuena ever. 180,000 bottles and some bigger-sized formats were filled. The wine will be released in 2015. Drink 2016-2025". - The Wine Advocate

Vega Sicilia

Vega Sicilia winery is probably the most recognized Spanish wine-growing estate on international level. It was founded by Eloy Lecanda in 1864. During its nearly 150 years of history, the owners of the winery changed but the wines always have kept their personality: concentrated, genres and very elegant. Vega Sicilia currently belongs to Alvarez Mezquíriz who bought it in 1982, looking to be at the forefront regarding the latest innovations in the process of growing, winemaking and expanding the vineyard area.

The smell of this Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5 Año Año reminds me somehow a menthol candy. Passes easily across the palate, smooth and very nice.
A bit too commercial for my taste.

I was lucky last week at a dinner to enjoy this piece of wine! Thanks Paul;)) We let oxygenate few minutes (cost endure) and the truth is that this is tremendous Ribera del Duero. Elegant, intense aromas. . . not leave you indifferent. The 14, 5 degrees are not noticeable on the palate and is tremendous warmth and flavors that leaves you in the mouth. A great wine that if for any occasion pq price is tremendous too!

Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5º Año 2010 - grandioso vino

4/5

Opaque ruby. Spice- and mineral-accented aromas of dark berries, cherry pit and potpourri, with a toasty topnote. Minerally, incisive and sweet on the palate, offering smoky cherry and blackcurrant flavors complicated by vanilla, mocha and licorice. Shows impressive power and vivacity on the youthfully tannic finish, with the smoke and spice notes strongly repeating.
