Description of Pingus 2008
Pingus 2008 (Tempranillo)
Garnet red with purple hues, intense layer well covered, attractive and bright. The nose is aromatic, high power, perfumed and fragrant. Aroma of berries, roasted plum pudding. Tasty and structured. Outstanding notes of coffee, roasted and mental, with memories of black fruit (blackberries and plums). Tannins of its noble woods which will be polished in the evolution of this wine.

The Winery
Dominio de Pingus

Pingus is a very new and hugely successful winery in Ribera del Duero. Run by a young, Danish born renowned winemaker, Peter Sisseck, the winery has produced astonishing results (and prices) in a very short period of time. Located in a winery said by John Radford, Spanish wine expert, to resemble a pink flying saucer, Pingus is part of an elite club of top Spanish wine producers. Yields are incredibly low, the wines are extremely concentrated, allocation is miniscule. Crianza and Reserva wines are made from ancient, gnarled Tempranillo vines. Sisseck is said to be a genius in the vineyard, where pruning has become an artform.

The 2008 Pingus is one of the finest that I have tasted. It is closed on the nose at first, broody even, and giving it a few encouraging swirls is akin to awakening a giant. It opens gloriously with small dark cherries, black olives, crushed stone and violet, an underlying minerality that is difficult to ignore. The palate is blessed with a Chateau Margaux-like sense of symmetry that leads to a tensile, precise finish that carries on for a minute in the mouth. This will turn out to be an awesome Pingus.View more
