The Winery
Bodegas Emilio Moro

Since 1987 Bodegas Emilio Moro decided to market their wines beginning with a small winery in the eight tanks were installed, a sheller, cooling equipment for temperature control, a small bottling labeling, all very familiar but with top controls of quality. In 1997 he began work on the actual winery, which ended in September 2001.

The top of the range of all reds produced with Tempranillo is the 2011 Clon de La Familia, a blend of three vineyards that were planted with the original Tempranillo clone from their old family vineyards on the three different soils they have: clay, chalk and stone. The wine went through malo and 18 months élevage in new French barriques. It's rich, ripe, heady and generously-oaked; it's an expression of modern Ribera del Duero, a wine that José Moro defines as 'honest,' with those blackcurrants, licorice, and fennel aromas coated by sweet spices and smoke. It has a faint reductive personality, so an energetic decanting would not be out of place. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with some dusty, fine-grained tannins, and moderate acidity that make it both powerful and soft-textured. Give it some bottle aging.View more
