Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama

Ama takes its name from a small village located on the hills almost 500 meters above sea level. Five centuries ago around it flourished agricultural activity and the production of wine taken care of by a group of families of the time. "From Radda we went to Amma three miles away on a hill; there are the Pianigiani, Ricucci and Montigiani houses which are the strongest in the Chianti area and truly live by people rich in the countryside, they spend all their time in cultivations and vineyards and take care of themselves for their effects. Around Castello di ama there are the most beautiful hills and valleys in all of Chianti, cultivated with marvels with fertile soils with grains, olive trees and beautiful vineyards ", wrote, in the eighteenth century, the Grand Duke Peter Leopold of Habsburg Lorraine in his Report on the Government of Tuscany.

4 /5

The Haiku from the famous winery from Tuscany is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc and Merlot and is now one of the famous super tuscans. The Haiku has a deep ruby red color and has a very complex book of red cherries, flowers, coffee, mint and spices. In the mouth this medium / full bodied wine is very pleasant with a nice attack, ripe tannins and refined acidity. The wine is well balanced and elegant. Like all of the Castello di Ama wines, the Haiku also has solid tannins that give this wine a great storage potential. Certainly as good as the more famous Tignanello (Antinori) but much more affordable in price. The wine has received a 95 rating from Parker and has a drinking window until 2034.

The vineyard is located in Gaiole in Chianti at an altitude of between 390-530m above sea level. The soil of the vineyard is rich in lime and clay. The fermentation and maceration takes place in stainless steel tanks for 25 days, malolactic fermentation in barriques followed by an aging of 11-13 months in French barriques (30% new, 70% 2nd-3rd passage)

The name Haiku comes from an original, traditional Japanese Haiku, which is based on simplicity. The label features a knight styled by Guidoriccio da Fogliano, which has its origins in Simone Martini's fresco, rooted in Italian tradition.
