In 1988, A Danish-American couple, Hans and Carrie Jorgensen set out in a sailboat to find a place to start a family and plant vines. They came to Alentejo and they found "Cortes de Cima." It was just a barren land and a few abandoned buildings. But Carrie, of Portuguese ancestry, said the landscape reminded her of California, her homeland. Hans, who was born in Denmark, fell in love with the Mediterranean sun. Their first wine was "born" in 1998 and the many successful vintages which followed as well as their pioneering spirit have put Cortes de Cima on the map. This unique wine has a distinctive Rhône-style personality with its deep palate brimming with plum compote, roasted venison, spice and wild herbs. A wonderful wine.
Robin Kick MW says "Dois Terroirs is an unusual blend of Aragonez (Tempranillo), Pinot Noir and Syrah and is produced from two different vineyards - one that has sandy soils and cooling breezes close to the seaside and the other from Mediterranean, clay-limestone soils around the estate. These distinct soil types are portrayed on its fun, retro label, making this wine appealing all around."

In 1988, a Danish-American couple set out in a sailboat to find a place to start a family, plant a vineyard, and make wine... and thus begins our story of Cortes de Cima Family Vineyards, one of Portugal's leading wineries. Located in Vidigueira, Alentejo, Cortes de Cima, is still a family run vineyard and winery under the daily supervision of Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, with 140 ha of mainly Aragonez, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz and Verdelho. Back in 1991, Syrah was not permitted on the regional regulations, but Hans planted it anyway, convinced that he had an ideal climate and soil conditions for that famous Rhone variety, the first 'illegal' vintage of Syrah in 1998, was bottled as Incógnito, and quickly earned accolades and notoriety in Portugal, and Medals in London, Brussels and Bordeaux.

To this red would have paired better with a softer meat. At a dinner with other couples.
Red wine with violet reflections. Smells good, like a mix of raspberry und strawberry. It was a surprising wine.

As a coincidence I visited the winery and I bought a few boxes.
Good colour. A smell quite well. A very dense red.
