The Alentejo is a wine-producing region in Portugal, officially divided into five denominations of origin, Portalegre, Borba, Redondo, Reguengos and Vidigueira, all of them producing VQPRD wines. The wines from these five regions are entitled to use the denomination if strains are at least 80%.

In the Alentejo, red wines are a majority, with the exception of the DOC Vidigueira, which is solely devoted to the production of white wine. Among the main white strains we must mention Arinto, Galego, Ferrum, Manteúdo, Roupeiro and Rabo d'Ovelha. Among the red strains, other big names such as Alfrocheiro, Moreto, Aragonez, parakeets, Trincadeira and Trinca Grossa.

In Alentejo the usual minimum aging is of one year, and only then is the wine bottled.
