Description of Clos Mogador Manyetes VI de Vila Gratallops 2017

Clos Mogador Manyetes VI de Vila Gratallops 2017 (Carignan)

  • View: It has a very intense and bright cherry red color.
  • Nose: The nose is a very expressive wine in which intense aromas of ripe fruit dominated (plums, currants, cherries ...) combined with balsamic and minerals.
  • Mouth: A well-balanced red wine with ripe tannins that surprises with its silky and full flavor notes of fruit and freshness.

APPELLATION: Priorat (Catalonia, Spain).

VINEYARD: René Barbier.

GRAPES: Carignan.

AGEING: The resulting wine is aged in oak casks of 300 liters which makes its aging of 18 months.

PREPARATION: Manyetes Wine is made from grapes harvested from a single estate of the same name (Les Manyetes) located 250 meters above sea level. A vineyard of 10 hectares with slate floors (licorella) and shallow depth of earth. The harvest is performed entirely by hand, picking the grapes at their optimum ripening. Once they reach the fruit cellar, the clusters make a 30-day fermentation in open oak tanks (temperature controlled) with daily pumping and bazuqueos.

WINE PAIRING: excellent accompaniment to main courses of roast red meat, white meat in sauce and spoon traditional stews.

The Rene Barbier Clos mogador Manyetes carries the "Vi de Villa Gratallops" on its label, as it is from Carinena vineyards in the village of Gratallops. The vineyard is almost 400 meters and is only 10 Ha in the most inhospitable Priorat area. The Manyetes is a 100% Carignan which has been allowed to mature for 18 months or the best (new) European oak. The bright purple-colored Manyetes has a complex nose of wet slate, graphite and peat mixed with blueberry, violet and licorice aromas in a very harmonious way. The taste is wonderfully rustic, with polished tannins, good acidity, pure flavors and a very long finish, it is made from the classic Priorat grape de Carignan from a very old vineyard. This is the brother of the Clos Mogador, which is better known by us, but this is mainly because only 3000 bottles have been made, but this brother of the Clos Mogador is just as beautiful.

The different terroirs that exist within the Priorat wine appellation have led to the creation of a new "Village Wine - Gratallops". As in Burgundy, France and is somewhat similar to Antinori with its Super Tuscans

Manyetes is the name of a vineyard in Gratallops: a daring venture where vines can barely survive given the region's poor soil and intense sunlight. The vines are literally surviving, but this is exactly what is the main essence of Priorat wines. Extremely low yields, one wine stole that has to take root extremely deeply on the steep slate slopes and this extraordinary vineyard in an extraordinary setting produces extraordinary wines.
