Noble. That is how we could define Clos Mogador 2012, a Priorat wine that stays faithful to the terroir and that with every vintage it gives us its best. It is a warm and smooth wine, where the abundance of berries is overlapped with coffee, relish and spices, that armonize with subtle and well balanced tannins. It is a complex wine, rich in expressions, a great example of a Priorat wine.

Description of Clos Mogador 2012
Clos Mogador 2012 (Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Cariñena, Garnacha, Syrah and Garnacha negra)
- View: Clos Mogador 2012 shows a ripe cherry red color with purple hues. Very high, deep and bright. Dense tear ink cup.
- Nariz: Intense and complex, changing, extraordinary nose. Input appear aromas of ripe, fleshy, vibrant, explosive black fruit, which suggests gradually floral and balsamic. But this has only just begun. With the passage of time appear creamy shades, roasted Mediterranean herbs ... everything always escorted by that marvelous minerality of Priorat. A nose to give it time.
- Boca: Wide and powerful tackle. Much volume. Structured, broad and deep. Excellent acidity and surprisingly fine and noble tannins. Very long finish, extremely persistent. Immense.
PAIRING: Grilled red meats, grilled red meats, Game stew, Large game, Aged cheeses, Only, Deer, Wild Boar, Jamón Ibérico de Bellota, Red meat with sauce
CELLAR: Clos Mogador
GRAPES: Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah
How to serve
René Barbier, a descendant of a famous dynasty of winemakers from France and established also in the Penedès, was one of the pioneers of the new Priorat reds successfully bet this difficult area when others ignored.More about the Winery
The 2012 Clos Mogador is nothing short of spectacular. They started in 1999 with some Cariñena, and they gradually increased the Garnacha and reduced the Cabernet. 2012 is possibly the vintage of Mogador with less Cabernet, as it didn't behave well in such warm year. René Barbier senior tells me it reminds him of the freshness of the 2000 that he generously uncorked for me to compare; they only have a handful of bottles for the old vintages! The nose of this 2012 is still little reticent but not reduced like many vintages in the past, slowly showing a great Mediterranean-Atlantic balance with notes of herbs, wet slate and graphite. The super-elegant palate offers great acidity and freshness with incredibly layered and delineated flavors that have an electric, mineral sensation with tension and really fine tannins. There are no traces of oak and no edges... rugged silk? This is a Mogador for decades. If this is always a bargain for the quality it delivers, it is even more so in 2012!View more
