Description · Porto Cruz
Porto Cruz Tawny (Tempranillo, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Francesa, Touriga Nacional, Port and Tinta Çao)
- View: Richly red with a hint of copper undertones.
- Nose: A complex fruity aroma with cane berries to the fore.
- Mouth: Velvety smooth and warm, with flavours of cassis, dark chocolate, fruit cake, toasted hazelnuts, and vanilla, and a touch of pleasurable sweetness.
VINEYARD: Gran Cruz and its world-leading Porto Cruz brand took over Assumpçao E Fos, founded in 1887, and has been building on that expertise and prestige ever since. Porto Cruz is part of the Prestige Beverage Group.
GRAPES: Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cao, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesca, Touriga Nacional, and other red varieties.
AGEING: A minimum of 5 years in the barrel.
PREPARATION: Made from grapes grown in the Douro valley, under varied weather and flanked by steep slopes of schist. Grape brandy is introduced to put a brake on fermentation, allowing a residue of sugar to remain prior to ageing.
PAIRING: Of course, like any Tawny port, Porto Cruz Tawny is delicious with blue cheeses such as Roquefort or Stilton; hard, salty cheeses like vintage Cheddar, Parmesan, or Pecorino; a variety of salted nuts; and dried fruits or the baked goods that use them, such as fruit cakes or mince pies. However, you may also enjoy Porto Cruz Tawny with foie gras, pâtés, terrines, and melon with Iberico ham before a meal; feathered fowl game dishes, including duck; creamy desserts like crème brûlée; ginger-flavoured desserts and puddings; dark bitter chocolate treats; or with roasted chestnuts.
RECOMMENDED SERVING TEMPERATURE: 10-12°C
