Kopke has been producing fine Port wines since 1683. As the oldest Port house in the world, this company continues to offer a fine range of Port wines along with a beautiful collection of non-fortified wines. Kopke Fine Ruby is just one of 37 excellent Port wines crafted by Kopke. As hinted by its name, this deep ruby-coloured Port is a classic, delicate fortified wine packed full of flavour.
The grapes for this Port wine are picked by hand from the steep slopes of the Douro Valley on which the vines can be found. A mixture of traditional Douro grapes - including Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinto Cão - are destemmed, crushed, and fermented. When the mixture meets the perfect level of sweetness, grape brandy is added to stop the fermentation process, leaving behind some of the natural sweetness from the grapes.
Kopke Fine Ruby is a blend of fortified red wines from distinct harvests and distinct levels of maturation. After maturing in stainless steel and wood for at least three years, the final product is rich, aromatic, and naturally sweet. Best served slightly chilled, this Port is perfect for pairing with sweeter items and fruit-based desserts. Also excellent with cheeses or on its own, there is no perfect time or place to serve a Port this good. It is always a great option.
