Established in 1751, the Portuguese winemaker Ferreira has been producing some of the best wines and ports in the Douro region ever since. Those 250 years of experience, care, and tradition come through in their Porto Ferreira Tawny . Since 1987, Ferreira has been part of the Sogrape Vinhos portfolio of brands, a family company that produces and provides the world with high-quality Portuguese wines.
Porto Ferreira Tawny is a traditional red fortified wine made under the watchful eye of winemaker Luís Sottomayor. Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Amarela grapes are hand-picked before being crushed with their skins to allow the best parts of the skins to leave their mark on the final product. This mixture is allowed to ferment under carefully controlled conditions until wine alcohol is added to halt fermentation and retain the natural sweetness. This mixture is aged in oak casks from two to five years. The blended selection which makes it into the bottle of Porto Ferreira Tawny is an average of four years of age.
This beautiful red port from the famous Douro region is elegant and mature. The natural sweetness is set off nicely by the tannins. Serve it as an aperitif, paired with nuts or strong cheeses, including blue cheese. It also marries beautifully with desserts.

Ferreira Tawny (Tinta Amarela, Tinto Cão, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz)
TASTING NOTES:
- View: This fortified wine has a dark red colour. Specs of spices cannot be seen while the drink is in the bottle but can be seen when the drink is in a glass.
- Nose: Oak spices and other botanicals make up the bulk of this port's scent profile. The grape portion of the beverage gives off a sweet raisin-like scent.
- Mouth: This is a well balanced drink, due in part to the grape's mature tannins. The primary flavours include that of raisins and oak spices. When the drink is swallowed, it leaves a long finish.
APPELLATION: Port
VINEYARD: The Ferreira Tawny distiller has been in production in the Corgo and Douro region of Portugal since 1751. The schist soil gives the grapes here a unique growing condition.
GRAPES: Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cao, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, and Touriga Franca.
AGEING: The time that the port is aged varies with each batch. The ageing time can be as little as two years and as long as five years. On average, the port is aged for four years. All of the ageing is done in oak barrels.
PREPARATION: All of the grapes used in this blend are hand-picked before they are carefully destemmed and crushed. The grape skins are extracted as well. The fermentation is done at a controlled temperature.
PAIRING: This fortified wine tastes best when drunk alongside an array of fruity desserts and savoury snacks.
