"La Universal" is a small farm of 4 ha. located at the end of Falset, granitic soils (Saul), acidic and very poor in organic matter, from which this restless winemaker, daughter of Jose Luis Perez (Mas Martinet), and her husband René Barbier, producing wines with names of goddesses and heroines of mythology within the parameters of organic viticulture.More about the Winery
I also tasted the 2012 Venus la Universal, from a very warm year that has already developed tertiary notes. It has sweet and round tannins, similar to 2011, even if the aromas might be different. Here you feel the rusticity of Cariñena with its tree bark aromas and those dusty notes. It somehow made me think of a Priorat, even though the soils are rich in clay and limestone; there's an iron, bloody note that reminded me of the aromas that develop in slate soils. Perhaps it's the warmth of the year.View more
Reviews of Venus la Universal 2012
A Montsant with brown edges. The Montsant smells like cherry, licorice. On the palate was quite thick.
