When we talk about Jack Daniel's Old No.7, we're talking about a legend. The invention of this whiskey is due to Jasper Newton Daniel, better known as Jack Daniel, who at only 14 years old bought his first still and founded Jack Daniel's Old Time Distillery near Cave Spring.
Jack Daniel's is distilled just like bourbon, but with one very important difference: filtration, carried out through maple coal. This process is called "Lincoln County Process", and it is what distinguishes Jack Daniel's from Bourbon and gives it a slightly smoky and sweet character.
Why number 7? There are several theories on the subject. Some say it is the number of girlfriends Mr. Jack Daniel has had, others think that the recipe chosen for the world's most famous Tennessee Whisky was the seventh one developed by its inventor. Finally, there are those who think that 7 was simply chosen as a lucky number. Well, Jack Daniel's certainly had a lot of luck!
