Tilia wines are produced by Bodegas Esmeralda in the eastern Mendoza region of Argentina. The name "Tilia" comes from the Latin name for linden trees. The linden is a traditional tree which can be found all over the Mendoza region. As its flowers are used to make a calming tea, the workers in the vineyard often enjoy a mug of this tea after a hard day's work.
To make Tilia Malbec, which was first produced in 2006, the grapes are sourced from both the eastern and southern parts of Mendoza. This mix of grapes allows the final product to avail of the characteristic strengths and flavours of both regions. It is important to note that the company is proud to use sustainably farmed grapes. Tilia wines are aged in French and American oak for anywhere from 6 to 9 months, depending on the year.
Tilia Malbec is a true Malbec from Mendoza. It is a dark purple wine which gives off the aroma of black cherries and plums. This rich wine has ripe, silky tannins and is a full-bodied delight. Pair Tilia Malbec with a meat dish with a tangy berry sauce to take full advantage of its richness and fruit tones.

Tilia Malbec (Malbec)

- Nose: Black cherries, coffee, ripe plums, and a note of violets take you to an autumn orchard with leaves underfoot.
- Mouth: A rich, full-bodied, and deeply satisfying mouthful giving flavours of blackberry, dark chocolate, plum jam, and just the right amount of black pepper. A smooth and beautiful dance of tannins, into a gentle finish.

GRAPES: 100% Malbec
AGING: 6-9 months in American and French oak, 10% new, with a further 3 months in the bottle.
PREPARATION: Grown in both eastern and southern areas of the Mendoza region of Argentina, the grapes benefit from sustainable viticulture practices on family-owned vineyards at high elevations. The vines sit in clay-loam and sandy-loam soils with northwestern exposures. Twelve days of fermentation in stainless steel tanks is followed by fifteen days of maceration.
PAIRING: This splendidly rich yet easy-to-drink wine is really versatile, complementing pork, venison, and red sauce pasta dishes equally well. But a fine Argentinian wine like Tilia Malbec deserves to be enjoyed alongside a good steak; nothing too fancy, perhaps a generous dollop of garlic butter with rosemary, and with crisp green beans and chunky chips on the side.
