Description of Catena Zapata Nicolas 2014

Catena Zapata Nicolas 2014 (Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot)

  • View: Deep dark purple with bluish-black tones.
  • Nose: A tempting array of ripe, dark red fruits intermingling with vanilla and cacao and a touch of savoury herbs.
  • Mouth: Catena Zapata Nicolas 2014 is full-bodied on the palate and a beautifully complex flavour, with prominent notes of blackberry, black cherry, plum, and black currant. The juicy fruit flavours are supported by fine-grain tannins and mineral structure. The long finish offers subtle whispers of eucalyptus, chocolatey oak, and black pepper.

VINEYARD: The grapes came from different vineyards in Argentina: La Pirámide in Agrelo, Adrianna in Gualtallary, and Nicasia in Altamira. The vineyards range in altitude from 950 to 1,450 meters above sea level and have primarily alluvial, limestone, and clayey soil.

GRAPES: 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Malbec.

AGEING: Aged for 2 years in French oak barrels

PREPARATION: Catena Zapata was founded in 1902 by an Italian family in Argentina. The fourth generation of the Catena family now carries on the legacy of creating high-quality luxurious wines. The winery put extra care into creating the award-winning Catena Zapata Nicolas 2014. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation takes place in first- and second-fill French oak containers kept at low temperatures for 15 days. Wild yeasts are added and cap management is done by hand. The wine is never refined or filtered, preserving an authentic and rustic elegant wine.

PAIRING: Lamb, beef steak, duck, eggplant, blue cheese.

Lukten har et hint av fioler. En rødevin som smakte lenge.
