TASTING NOTES:

View: dark violet hue with bright flashes.
Nose: ripe black and red currants, raspberries and an elegant touch of French oak are some of the aromas that can appreciate this special Malbec one of the highest Catena family vineyards.
Mouth: Very complex and expressive palate with a creamy flavor violet with ripe blueberries, cassis, vanilla and spice cake.

APPELLATION: Mendoza.

VINEYARD: Alejandro Vigil.

GRAPES: 100% Malbec.

AGEING: The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 24 months followed by 24 months aging in bottle before release.

PREPARATION: The 100% whole bunch and berry whole 90% handloaded in new French oak barrels of 225-500 liters for 100% barrel fermentation for a period of 17 days, which allows integration of oak without seams. The fermentation temperature is kept low, drawing intense flavors and top management is done by hand to ensure smooth flavors and tannin extraction. Wild yeast. In 1994, Nicolas and his team were confident they had identified the best lots for growing Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Net als de Malbec van de Adrianna wijngaard is dit een van de paradepaardjes van Catena Zapata, gemaakt op basis van de oude stokken Malbec, in dit geval uit de hooggelegen Nicasia wijngaard. Ook hier gaat het om een van de producten van het bijzondere programma van Laura Catena, om van de mooiste hoge wijngaarden van het familiedomein aparte wijnen te maken. Voor deze wijn worden druiven gebruikt uit de Nicasia wijngaard, van een perceel op 1180 meter hoogte. Door de hoogte hangen de druiven lang aan de stokken en krijgen ze veel smaak, een combinatie van rijp fruit en frisheid. De laatste druiven worden pas begin mei binnengehaald. Gisting vindt plaats op deels houten vaten van 225 liter en deels op tanks van 500 liter. De rijping op nieuwe Franse eiken vaten duurt achttien maanden. Catena Zapata Malbec Nicasia is one of the top Malbec's of the Catena stable. A classic example of Malbec in its finest form, with deep, dark black cherry and plum fruit, toasty oak, cinnamon, violets, incense and truffle. A full-bodied wine, perfectly balanced and elegant.
