Château du Tertre

In the south-western reaches of Margaux is Le Grand Poujeau, a large gravel plateau which peaks at just over 20m above sea level. The vines here belong to several well known Margaux chateaux, including Giscours and d'Angludet, but many of them are owned by Chateau du Tertre. Indeed, tertre refers to a hillock or knoll, and this is the origin of this estate's name.

This Château du Tertre is made from a blend of the following grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Altogether this provides Château du Tertre elegant, freshness, fruitiness and soft tannins. The combination of the grapes make for a great Margaux: Merlot brings roundness and softness on the palate, the Cabernet Franc from the oldest vines offers gluttony, Cabernet Sauvignon offers finesse and elegance required to respect the Château du Tertre style. And do not forget the Petit Verdot, which complements the personality of this wine. This amazing (and affordable) Margaux) received 90-92 / 100 Parker points and a drinking window to 2040+ The 2016 is one of the finest vintages of this elegant Margaux.

Château du Tertre has a very long history, where many owners have succeeded. The property now belongs to Eric Albada Jelgersma, also owner of Château Giscours having invested heavily in this Castle, combining tradition and modernism.
The 52 hectares of the Château du Tertre lie on one of the most beautiful severe ridges on the Margaux terroir, but also higher. The vines of the vineyard is composed of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot 33%, 19% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
The wines are aged in barrels (45% new) for 15 to 17 months.
The ruby purple reflections on the Château du Tertre 2012 is admirable. On the palate, it offers notes of gooseberry and currant, decorated with a touch of liquorice on a rather woody. Its soft tannins and light acidity contribute to the balance of this wine.

We paired it with a wide range of tapas. I had it with my friends.
Cherry red colour with purple edges. Sensual aromas of cherries. It predominated roasted flavours.
